The Details Involved in a Dental Cleaning

Posted .

If you are one who is nervous about your next dental cleaning appointment in New Orleans, Louisiana, our Algiers Dental Associates team may be able to help you feel a bit better. Oftentimes, nervousness occurs when you’re not exactly sure what to expect, and our team is happy to help you know more about your appointment so you feel better at our office. So, when you come in for your visit, you can expect:

1. A warm welcome: We want you to feel at home at our office, which is why we’ll greet you with a warm smile as you walk through our doors. When it’s your turn, our team will guide you through the office back to your comfortable dental chair. At this time, we will review your medical history and ask you any necessary questions. This is a good time for you to ask us questions as well.

2. A dental cleaning: To begin your dental cleaning, we will scrape the surfaces of your teeth with a special tool. This will remove the plaque and tartar that threaten to destroy your smile with tooth decay and gum disease. Then, we will clean the hard-to-reach areas of your oral cavity by flossing. This will also help remove the plaque. To complete the cleaning, we will polish your chompers with a flavored polishing treatment.

3. A fluoride treatment: If you want a strong and healthy smile, fluoride is the key. This mineral strengthens and nourishes your chompers and helps them survive on a regular basis. This is why we provide a fluoride treatment at our office. The treatment will come in the form of a foam, gel, or varnish and it will most likely be flavored. We will put the fluoride over your smile and will wait for the minerals to soak into your teeth. When the time is up, you will rinse and wash your mouth.

Your dentist, Dr. John Hobgood, and our team are here to help you in any way we can, so if you have any questions regarding your dental cleaning or dental care in general, please remember that you can always call 504-361-3277 during our office hours.
